Our Present

We long to see St Albans and our communities transformed by the gospel through mature followers of Jesus of all ages, and so we aim to help people grow in their faith and daily life as they follow Him.

Whether a person has been a christian for many years, has no faith, little faith, or is just exploring, our passion is to take people on a journey of growth and maturity into the life and purpose that God has for them.

We aim to be the best church we can be for our city.  That doesn't mean we want to be the best; it means we want to do what we can, the best we can, and help people find their faith, mature in their faith, and share their faith regardless of where they are on the journey of following Jesus.

What does it mean to be a mature follower of Jesus?

A mature follower of Jesus isn't just someone who has been a Christian for a long time, but a person who is mature and strong in their faith.  They display Christ-like character, and they help to grow other mature followers of Jesus.  They are fully devoted to obedience to Jesus, dying to themselves, and to the mission of Jesus.

Our History

City Church St Albans was founded by a small group of people from Watford Elim Church late in the 1970's. We met in rented rooms/halls as we gathered people together, sharing the gospel through the power of the Holy Spirit. People from many  backgrounds and experiences joined in those early days as we began to grow in numbers and our presence in the city
. In the mid 80's we changed our name to City Church to reflect our vision to be a church for the city "set on a hill" that cannot be hidden.

During the 1980's and 90's we saw a period of growth both in size, influence, and blessing, being especially impacted by a move of the Holy Spirit that started and flowed from Toronto, Canada.  During this time, we held a series of annual conferences at the Alban Arena that were significant in both our history and that of the locality and region.

We continued to meet in rented halls, spending many years meeting at St Albans City College near the centre of St Albans.  In 2004 we were able to buy and move to our own home — Unity Works. Here God has continued to develop His plans for us leading us forward into the present day and with growing excitement about what is to come.
